Goals from Semi Ajayi and Ademola Lookman sealed the win after Tanzania briefly drew level in the second half.

Adeboye praised the team’s composure and response after conceding the equaliser, noting that such character reflects the true Nigerian spirit.

“This victory is important, not just for the points, but for confidence and belief,” Adeboye said. “The players showed resilience, calmness and unity. This is the Nigeria we all want to see — focused, determined and playing for the badge.”

He singled out the leadership on the pitch and the creative influence in midfield, while commending the defensive unit for staying compact under pressure in the closing stages of the match.

Adeboye also called on Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to rally fully behind the team as the tournament progresses, stressing that national support plays a crucial role in motivating the players.

“Africa is united in Morocco from December 21 to January 18, and football once again is bringing us together,” he added. “I continue to preach peace, unity and positive energy, especially to our youths. This tournament is a moment for Nigerians to stand as one and support our national team.”

The Super Eagles will next face Tunisia in their second Group C fixture on Saturday, with expectations high following the winning start. Adeboye urged the players to remain humble, focused and consistent as the quest for a fourth continental title continues.

Nigeria’s victory took their total AFCON goals tally to 148, reinforcing their status as one of Africa’s most accomplished football nations as the journey in Morocco gathers momentum.
