SSA Adeboye Hails Morocco’s Monarch at Throne Day Celebration, Calls for Stronger Nigeria-Morocco Ties Through Sports Diplomacy

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeyinka Adeboye, on Monday joined esteemed dignitaries and foreign diplomats in Abuja to mark the 26th anniversary of His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s ascension to the throne of the Kingdom of Morocco.

The colourful celebration, hosted by the Moroccan Embassy in Nigeria, attracted an elite gathering of government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, traditional rulers, and business leaders — all united in honouring a monarch widely revered for his visionary leadership and commitment to African unity.

Representing the Federal Government in his capacity, Hon. Adeboye—fondly known as Zulu Authority—commended King Mohammed VI for his exemplary leadership style and the positive transformation witnessed across the Kingdom of Morocco under his reign.

“This celebration is more than a royal anniversary,” Adeboye said. “It is a symbol of the strong and growing bond between Nigeria and Morocco.

As someone deeply rooted in grassroots engagement and youth empowerment, I see sports as a powerful bridge to deepen that relationship. His Majesty King Mohammed VI has shown immense foresight in using sports and culture to unify people across Africa.”

He described the occasion as “a celebration of not just the Moroccan throne, but of the spirit of partnership, peace, and shared progress between our nations.”

Adeboye also emphasized the role of youth and cultural exchange through sports diplomacy as a tool for enhancing mutual understanding and regional stability.

“With the rise of Moroccan football and Nigeria’s recent triumph at the Women’s AFCON, the time is ripe for strategic collaboration in sports development. Our two nations can do so much together for the youth of Africa,” he added.

The SSA’s presence at the event reaffirmed Nigeria’s dedication to strengthening diplomatic and cultural ties with fellow African countries, especially through the unique platform of sports—an area where he has passionately driven reform and grassroots impact since his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Kingdom of Morocco’s National Day, known as Throne Day, is marked annually to honour the monarch’s leadership and to reflect on the country’s achievements and aspirations.

As the evening closed with cultural displays, music, and speeches celebrating African unity, Hon. Adeboye pledged to continue using his office to foster lasting connections between nations—on and off the field.
