SSA Adeboye Falls In Love With Flag Football, Announces Plan To Launch Own Team In Showtime League

The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeyinka Adeboye, has declared his growing passion for flag football after experiencing the electrifying season opener of the ShowtimeXIII Flag Football League on Sunday in Lekki.

Adeboye, who officially kicked off the new season with the ceremonial “Throw Off,” was visibly thrilled by the intensity of the game, the quality of facilities, and the sheer energy of fans who thronged the Showtime Sports Arena to witness the clash between LA Knights and Lagos Rebels.

Speaking after the event, Adeboye admitted that the day’s spectacle had won his heart completely over to the fast-rising sport.

“What I saw yesterday was beyond just a game — it was passion, talent, energy, and innovation rolled into one. This is how a sport should feel, and I can proudly say I am now in love with flag football,” he said with excitement.

The presidential aide went even further, making a bold revelation that he would soon establish his own team to compete in the Showtime Flag Football League.

“Very soon, by God’s grace, I will be putting together a team that will join this amazing league. This is how committed I am to the vision, because I believe flag football is the future of youth sports in Nigeria,” he declared.

Adeboye praised the league’s president, Azeez Amida, for his relentless investment in the sport and commitment to youth development. He also highlighted the economic opportunities and community spirit being built around flag football, stressing that the sport is destined to become a household name in Nigeria.

The SSA’s declaration marks a new chapter for the game, signaling stronger government recognition and fresh momentum for grassroots sports innovation in Nigeria.

With ten teams battling across 13 weeks of action, ShowtimeXIII is already one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing sports platforms. And now, with Adeboye’s open endorsement — and soon, his very own team — the league looks set to soar to even greater heights.
