Sponsor of the forthcoming Anumorigba football tournament has announced the sum of N500, 000 for the prize money to the two teams that would play in this year’s final.
The cup donor, Abayomi Ayodeji disclosed this while speaking with sport247.ng in Oshodi that he had increased the prize money for the finalists and urged the organizing committee to expedite action to ensure that teams from various part of Lagos take part in the competition.
“This is the third edition of the competition and I have increased the prize money to N500, 000 naira.In the past we gave less than N500, 000 for the finalists but this time around the champions and first runner up would go home with the N350, 000 and N150, 000 respectively. We are doing this to make the tourney a competitive one for all the participating teams,” he said.
Ayodeji popularly known as Baba Owo said he singlehandedly sponsored the competition as part of his contribution to the football development in Oshodi and its environs. He said there are many talented players in Oshodi, Mafoluku and its environs but lacked football competitions to showcase their talents.
“There are good players who are hidden in Oshodi and Mafoluku but the only way people can see them is to sponsor a tournament of this magnitude and I believe that this tournament would bring the best out of the players. I wish all the participating teams best of luck in their outings,” he said.
Match coordinator, Alhaji Waheed Alogba disclosed that registration forms are on sale for any club owners who are interested in the competition saying that only clubs that have discipline would be registered.
The competition according to the organisers would kick off next month at the Concord football pitch, Mafoluku
