Special Olympics Tanzania Trains Journalists to Promote Inclusion in Sports

Dar es Salaam — In a significant step toward promoting inclusion and equality in sports, Special Olympics Tanzania has organized a special training program for sports journalists from various media outlets across the country.

The training, held at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, focused on improving media awareness and reporting on the abilities and achievements of people with intellectual disabilities through sports.

Led by Charles Rays, CEO of the Special Olympics Tanzania Foundation, the session aimed to strengthen collaboration between the media and the organization to ensure that positive stories about athletes with intellectual disabilities gain more visibility in the press.

“This program is about creating understanding and changing perspectives,” said Rays. “We want the media to highlight the potential, resilience, and success of these athletes — not their limitations.”

The initiative forms part of Special Olympics Tanzania’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusion and equal opportunities for all in the country’s sports sector, while encouraging the media to play an active role in advancing social awareness and acceptance through storytelling.
