This was revealed by the council’s secretary, HRH Eze (Dr) Lucky Okoro, who stated in an exclusive interview with Sports247 in Owerri that the proposed gathering of youths for healthy competition will help keep them busy during the long summer holiday.
The esteemed monarch, who is also Eze III of Eziobodo and former chairman of Owerri West local government area of Imo State, added that it is part of the council’s strategy towards maintaining peace.
He thanked the traditional council’s chairman,
HRM Eze Emmanuel Chukwuagina Okeke CFR (Ezeudo II of Amaifeke Ancient Kingdom) for his unique leadership style of carrying everyone along and leading them with wisdom.
He equally pointed out that the biggest achievement during the ongoing tenure of HRM Okeke as ‘Eze Imo’ is the return of security in the state, as well as leading the return of History as a subject in Nigeria’s schools.
Okoro, who previously worked as a lecturer and civil servant, further disclosed that he used to play tennis, hence his strong interest in using sports as a unifying tool in various communities of Ino State.
He expatiated, “We engage in youth sports development on a seasonal basis. We did something for football and volleyball in December.
“We can’t do sports all the time, because there are other issues to face in our communities. But we know how sports can be used as a tool of ending youth restiveness.”
