Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has insisted his players remain focused ahead of Tuesday’s crucial FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa in Bloemfontein, despite FIFA’s refusal to dock points from Bafana Bafana over alleged fielding of an ineligible player.
Nigeria had pushed for South Africa to be sanctioned with a three-point deduction, but Chelle stressed that his team is not dwelling on the ruling.

Instead, the focus remains firmly on securing maximum points on the pitch.
Speaking after Monday’s training session, Chelle reaffirmed his players’ mindset.
“We have come here to play for three points, so we will send out a team capable of getting the job done. We are happy to have overcome Rwanda, but we must conquer here tomorrow to strengthen our qualification chances,” he said.
The coach emphasized that the decision from FIFA would not distract his team.
“I only know my team, and that’s where my focus is. FIFA is a big organisation, not a disorganised one”
” I am sure they will handle the situation properly, but for us, it’s about the football on the pitch,” Chelle added.
Chelle expressed optimism ahead of the clash, describing the tie as a chance for the Super Eagles to show their quality. “I am happy it’s a big game. It is another opportunity to achieve great things,” he said.
Nigeria began the qualifiers slowly but have since shown improvement under Chelle, who has guided the team to seven points from his first three matches in charge.
The coach believes the squad has the ability to overturn their early setbacks and leave South Africa trailing in the qualification race.
Kickoff at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein is set for Tuesday evening.
