South Africa vs Nigeria: Osimhen Off to Turkey After Rwanda Injury for Further Examination Amid Galatasaray Worries

Galatasaray have sent a private jet to Nigeria to fly star striker Victor Osimhen back to Istanbul for medical examinations following the injury he sustained in Saturday’s World Cup qualifier against Rwanda.

According to Haluk Yurekil, Osimhen will return to Galatasaray on Monday in private jet sent by the club after they show seriuos concern about his international break injury.

The Super Eagles forward limped off in the first half of the encounter at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on September 6, 2025, and was replaced by Cyril Dessers.

Initial assessments confirmed discomfort in his foot, prompting immediate concern from both Nigeria and his club.

Osimhen will arrive in Istanbul today, where Galatasaray’s medical team will carry out further tests to determine the severity of the injury and map out a recovery plan.

The Turkish champions, who signed Osimhen from Napoli in July for €75 million, are keen to ensure their marquee signing is fit as soon as possible.

Head coach Okan Buruk confirmed the club’s swift action in an interview with local journalists.

“We reached out to him (Osimhen). The information we received is that he has pain in his foot. We can’t say ‘there’s nothing wrong.’ We want to bring him to Istanbul as soon as possible and have him examined.”

The injury rules Osimhen out of Tuesday’s crucial World Cup qualifier against South Africa in Bloemfontein.

In his absence, Tolu Arokodare is expected to lead the attack for the Super Eagles.

Nigeria currently sit third in Group C with 10 points, three behind leaders South Africa, who only need one more victory to secure an automatic ticket to the 2026 World Cup.

A win in Bloemfontein would revive Nigeria’s chances, but losing their talismanic forward is a major blow.

Osimhen’s fitness will now be closely monitored in Istanbul, with Galatasaray officials hoping for positive news after medical examinations.

His condition is expected to be clearer later this week.
