Soludo To Cheer On As ANSSI Ends Today

The Anambra State governor, Charles Soludo, is expected to cheer on the athletes and players as the 3rd edition of the Anambra State Sports Initiative tournament for primary and secondary schools in the state comes to an end today, Friday, June 27, at the Awka City Stadium.

The grand finale of the tournament that started in March, 2025 with over 300 schools across the state saw over 30 schools qualifying for the finals in 10 sports across various categories; the U-12, which is for primary school pupils, the U-14, mainly for the Junior students of various secondary schools and the U-18, with senior class students competing for honour.

Sports competed for in the finals of this year’s championships are Ayo, Basketball, Chess, Scrabble, Football, Athletics, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Swimming and Taekwondo.

On Friday, there will be the final of the 60m race for both boys and girls in the U-12 category while the governor and other guests of honour would have the privilege of watching the final of the boys U-14 and girls U-18 football event.

There will also be the relay of the 4x100m race for both boys and girls and the 4x100m mixed relay final.

Speaking with the media, the chairman of the Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Mr. Patrick Estate Onyedum, said the competition continue to get bigger every year while also appreciating the state governor for his vision and investment in the competition.

He also applauded other sponsors involved in the competition as he look forward to the final day of the four-day tournament.
