Six Nigerian Youngsters Jet Off To Russia In Landmark Move For Football, Education With FDC Vista

In a major breakthrough for grassroots football development, six promising Nigerian youngsters have departed the country for Russia to join FDC Vista, where they will combine football and education in one of Europe’s most structured youth programmes.

The move, facilitated by top Nigerian football agent and Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Sports, Mr. Paul Ojo Omamomo, marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s growing football export story.

Omamomo, who also serves as the African Coordinator for FDC Vista, confirmed that the players will benefit from full scholarships that merge professional football training with high-quality academic education.

The six players were handpicked from a rigorous nationwide scouting exercise conducted last month across different zones in Nigeria. From 20 standout prospects identified during the process, the first batch of six has now made the trip to Russia, with the remaining players expected to follow in the coming days.

“This is not just about football — it’s about shaping disciplined, educated, and globally competitive athletes,” Omamomo said. “Our mission with FDC Vista is to create opportunities that go beyond the pitch, giving Nigerian youths a pathway to success both in sports and in life.”

Over the years, FDC Vista has earned global recognition for developing African footballers who have gone on to play for elite clubs and national teams. The academy’s partnership with Nigeria continues to yield results, with alumni now featuring across Europe’s top divisions.

Among the Nigerian talents who have previously come through the FDC Vista system are:

Olakunle Olusegun – Krasnodar FC (Russia)

Jonathan Okoronkwo – Hatayspor FC (Turkey)

Samson Tijani – Dukla Praha (Czech Republic)

Izuchukwu Okonkwo – Slavia Prague (Czech Republic)

John Batigi – AC Horsens (Denmark)

Osuji Vince – Club Brugge (Belgium)

Ehije Ukaki – Sheffield United (England)

Samuel Akere – Widzew Łódź (Poland)

Christian Nwachukwu – Sheffield United (England)

Malik Odeyinka – Alashkert (Armenia)

Umeh Emmanuel – FC Zurich (Switzerland)

Ojo Abraham – Botev Plovdiv (Bulgaria)

Gift Sunday – FK Bodø/Glimt (Norway)

Sunusi Ibrahim – CF Montréal (Canada)

Emmanuel John – Botev Plovdiv (Bulgaria)

Mathew Gbomadu – FC Ararat (Armenia)

The six new players are now expected to follow in these footsteps, with the opportunity to develop their skills, pursue education, and eventually break into professional football at the highest level.

For Omamomo, this project represents the next phase in Nigeria’s youth football evolution — one built on structure, opportunity, and the belief that education and sports can coexist for long-term success.

“We’re not just sending footballers abroad,” he added. “We’re sending ambassadors of Nigerian talent and discipline.”

With this latest batch, Nigeria’s footprint in European football continues to expand, as the nation’s brightest young prospects take bold steps toward their dreams.
