Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone has expressed confidence in Ademola Lookman, insisting that the Nigerian forward will overcome his difficult start and eventually make a significant impact at the Spanish club.
Sports247 reports that Lookman, who arrived at Atlético Madrid with expectations of strengthening the team’s attacking options, has yet to enjoy the start he would have wanted, prompting questions about his adaptation and role within Simeone’s system.

However, the Argentine tactician has urged patience, drawing comparisons with the experiences of teammates Julián Álvarez and Antoine Griezmann, who also faced challenging periods before finding their rhythm.
“I don’t know if Lookman is playing in a position where he doesn’t want to play. He hasn’t started the way he would have liked, but the same happened to Julián last season, and he came through it, Griezmann too,” Simeone said.
Despite Lookman’s slow start, Simeone highlighted the forward’s involvement in attacking situations, pointing to his competitiveness and willingness to take on opponents in the final third.
“Lookman is the player who has the most duels in the final third, and I have a lot of confidence in him,” he added.
The Atlético manager also warned against allowing frustration to affect the Nigerian’s confidence, stressing that difficult moments are part of the game and that patience remains important.
“I don’t want him to become frustrated. It’s part of life and football. The goal that opens the door for him will come.”
Simeone’s public backing represents an encouraging message for Lookman as he continues to adjust to life at the Madrid club.
For the Super Eagles forward, the immediate challenge will be to translate his attacking involvement into goals and consistent performances.
With his manager maintaining confidence in his ability, Lookman will hope to seize his next opportunities and repay that trust as Atlético Madrid’s campaign progresses.
