Dar es Salaam – Simba Sports Club head coach, Dimitar Pantev, has downplayed the significance of his team’s 2–1 victory over Sudanese side Al Hilal in a closed-door friendly match played on Thursday, stressing that his primary goal at the moment is building a strong and cohesive team capable of dominating both locally and continentally.
Speaking after the encounter, the Bulgarian tactician explained that while the win was encouraging, it was not his major focus. “The result is not important in this match,” Pantev said.

“I am determined to leave a mark on this team, ensure the squad plays my way, and bring joy to the fans and trophies.”
Since taking charge of the Tanzanian giants, Pantev has been working tirelessly to instill his tactical philosophy and improve the physical and mental readiness of his players.
His training sessions have been characterized by intensity, quick ball movement, and emphasis on teamwork — qualities he believes are essential to restoring Simba’s dominance in Tanzanian football.
Club insiders revealed that the coach has placed special attention on ball retention, defensive organization, and quick transitions, which he considers vital to competing effectively in both the domestic league and CAF competitions.
Pantev also praised his players for their response to his methods within a short period. “The boys are adapting fast. They have shown a strong mentality and willingness to learn, which gives me confidence that we are on the right path,” he said.
Simba SC’s leadership has expressed full support for Pantev’s long-term vision and is optimistic that his experience and tactical discipline will help the team reclaim the Tanzanian Premier League title and make an impact in the CAF Champions League this season.
The friendly against Al Hilal was part of the club’s ongoing pre-season preparation, aimed at building fitness, unity, and competitive sharpness ahead of the new campaign.
