Fulham manager Marco Silva has heaped praise on Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze after the forward came off the bench to deliver a decisive game-winning assist in Fulham’s tense 1–0 victory over Sunderland.
In a match that appeared destined for a frustrating stalemate, Chukwueze injected pace, flair, and unpredictability — and ultimately produced the moment that changed everything.

Silva, who introduced Chukwueze in the second half alongside Raul Jiménez, said he wanted fresh energy and creativity to unlock a stubborn Sunderland defence.
He got exactly that. Moments after coming on, Chukwueze burst down the flank with his trademark speed before linking up brilliantly with Jiménez, whose composed finish sealed the win.
“It was an important win for us — and Samuel’s assist was crucial,” Silva said proudly. “This is why we brought him on. He made the difference when it mattered.”
The Portuguese manager praised the Nigerian international’s attitude, highlighting his willingness to take initiative and impose himself on the game. According to Silva, Chukwueze has the kind of explosive quality that can change matches in an instant — and he showed that perfectly against Sunderland.
Fulham, who are pushing for a stronger league finish this season, needed a spark after a slow attacking performance in the first half. Chukwueze provided exactly that, stretching the opposition defence and creating space for his teammates. His combination play with Jiménez proved to be the breakthrough Fulham had been searching for all afternoon.
Silva stressed that while the victory was hard-fought, the result matters most. The win provides momentum and keeps Fulham firmly in their chase for points. “Sometimes games are tight and difficult, but you need players who can unlock moments — Samuel did that today,” he said.
For Chukwueze, the performance is another reminder of his growing impact in English football. As Fulham look to climb the table, the Nigerian winger may become one of the team’s most important weapons off the bench — or even from the start.
One thing is clear:
When Chukwueze enters the pitch, something happens — and usually, it’s magic.
