Former Super Eagles manager Samson Siasia has laid bare the core of Nigeria’s struggles in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers: failure to dominate at home. The outspoken former striker emphasised that, beyond tactical issues, dropped points on Nigerian soil have been the decisive factor crippling the campaign .
Speaking to Brila FM in a candid interview, Siasia admitted the situation is dire. “I think they would need a miracle…but they have to…give it their best shot. Because, as difficult as it is, nothing is impossible,” he urged .

Siasia acknowledged that new head coach Eric Chelle has shown promise. Chelle steered Nigeria to a solid away win in Kigali and has injected renewed energy, but Siasia pointed out that to realistically qualify, Nigeria must win every remaining match—and it all starts at home .
He also called on national unity: “If we all come together, we have great players… play as a team… score goals.” This collective spirit, he said, is especially urgent with every match carrying do-or-die stakes.
Nigeria’s faint hope includes potential FIFA sanctions against South Africa for fielding ineligible players, which could narrow the gap—though Siasia cautioned relying on such external help is risky . His clear message: seize control through home triumphs.
