Nigerian defender Shukurat Oladipo delivered a disciplined defensive performance while compatriot Rinsola Babajide featured for AS Roma Women in their 1–1 home draw against ACF Fiorentina Women in the Serie A Femminile.
The match, which saw the league leaders pushed hard by a determined Fiorentina side, produced an entertaining contest with both teams sharing the spoils after a closely fought encounter.
Roma controlled large spells of possession early in the game but struggled to break down a well-organized Fiorentina defense. The visitors eventually struck just before halftime when Swedish forward Madelen Janogy capitalized on a well-worked attacking move to give Fiorentina the lead in the 43rd minute.
Janogy’s goal silenced the home crowd and handed Fiorentina a valuable advantage heading into the halftime break.
Roma responded with renewed intensity in the second half, pressing forward in search of an equalizer.
Nigerian forward Babajide was introduced into the contest and played 45 minutes, adding pace and attacking width to Roma’s frontline as the hosts increased their pressure.
Their persistence eventually paid off in the 77th minute when 17-year-old midfielder Giulia Galli produced a moment of composure to restore parity for the hosts. The youngster’s goal lifted Roma and ensured they avoided defeat on home soil.
Throughout the contest, Oladipo impressed with her defensive awareness, helping Roma maintain stability at the back while limiting Fiorentina’s attacking opportunities during key moments of the match.
Despite pushing for a late winner, Roma were unable to find a second goal as Fiorentina held firm to secure a hard-earned point.
The result sees Roma maintain their position at the top end of the Serie A Femminile standings as they continue their push for domestic success.
Meanwhile, Fiorentina will take confidence from a strong away performance against one of the league’s title contenders.
For the Nigerian duo, the match provided another important opportunity to contribute to Roma’s campaign as the season enters its decisive phase.
