Showtime Goes Global: Nigerian Flag Football League Partners With USA Flag To Unlock International Opportunities

In a monumental stride for Nigerian sports, Showtime Flag Football League has announced a groundbreaking partnership with USA Flag—the world’s largest and most influential flag football event organizer.

This alliance marks a new chapter in Nigeria’s emergence as a continental and global flag football powerhouse.

Founded in 2015, USA Flag is a Guinness World Record holder for hosting the largest flag football tournament ever, drawing over 1,400 teams to its signature events.

With this partnership, Showtime Flag is officially stepping onto the world stage, offering Nigerian athletes, coaches, and referees a direct pathway to elite global exposure, training, and competition.

A Game-Changing Collaboration

Under the terms of this new partnership, Showtime Flag and USA Flag will collaborate on a series of strategic initiatives aimed at revolutionizing flag football in Nigeria:

Nigerian clubs to participate in the prestigious Club World Championships in Tampa, Florida, home to the largest flag football gathering in the world.

Nigeria to host and co-host international tournaments, positioning the country as a flag football tourism hub and creating fresh economic and athletic opportunities.

Scholarships for young Nigerian athletes to pursue educational opportunities in the United States through flag football.

Referee and coaching certifications, elevating technical standards across the board.

Joint training camps and tournaments in both Nigeria and the U.S. to nurture local talent and expand scouting pipelines.

Professional scouting opportunities and international exposure for players, coaches, and referees alike.

“We’re Not Just Growing the Game — We’re Building Bridges”

Azeez Amida, President of Showtime Flag Football League, emphasized the importance of this moment:

“This collaboration with USA Flag is a big win for Nigerian flag football. We’re not just growing the game; we’re building credible bridges for our athletes, coaches, and officials to attain the highest levels of competition and training. I can see a future where Nigerian players are being traded abroad. This partnership brings that vision closer to reality.”

USA Flag has long been a driving force in pushing flag football toward Olympic recognition, and with flag football officially set to debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, this partnership could not be more timely.

Showtime: Building Africa’s Flag Football Infrastructure

The announcement comes on the heels of Nigeria’s double gold victory at the IFAF African Flag Football Championships in Cairo, where both the men’s and women’s teams emerged as continental champions.

A large portion of the national team roster — including women’s MVP quarterback Anuoluwapo Bello — trace their origins to Showtime Flag League.

Beyond player development, Showtime has made serious infrastructure investments, including the first-ever standard flag football stadium in Africa, setting the pace for how sport infrastructure should look on the continent.

A Model for National Sports Development

The National Sports Commission (NSC), under the leadership of Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade, has praised Showtime’s contribution to youth development, gender inclusion, and the rise of a new Olympic sport in Nigeria.

The NSC has expressed its readiness to formally recognize a Nigerian Flag Football Federation—a move that would secure even more structural support for the sport’s growth.

From neighborhood fields to the world’s biggest stage, Showtime Flag Football is not just playing the game—it’s changing it. And with the world watching, the best is yet to come.
