Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) have attributed the current poor condition of the Lekan Salami Stadium playing surface to harsh weather conditions, assuring stakeholders that urgent steps are being taken to address the situation.

In a club statement released on Friday, the Ibadan-based side confirmed receiving official communication from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) regarding the suitability of the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, to host league fixtures, particularly in light of recent broadcast and television requirements.
The club said it is treating the concerns raised by the NPFL with “utmost seriousness” and has already intensified efforts to improve the quality of the pitch.
According to the statement, ongoing measures include enhanced pitch maintenance, grass treatment, levelling and regular watering aimed at restoring the playing surface to acceptable standards.
Shooting Stars explained that the prevailing dry season and harsh weather have significantly affected the turf, presenting challenges that are not unique to the stadium.
However, the club stressed that work on the pitch has been continuous and focused on achieving steady improvement as well as long-term sustainability.
The five-time Nigerian champions reaffirmed their commitment to providing a safe, professional and broadcast-friendly playing environment that reflects the club’s rich history and status in Nigerian football.
The statement added that 3SC will continue to engage constructively with the NPFL in line with league directives, while prioritising lasting solutions that will allow supporters to continue enjoying home matches in Ibadan under acceptable conditions.
Shooting Stars also appealed to their fans, popularly known as the Oluyole faithful, for patience and understanding as efforts continue to resolve the situation.
The NPFL has in recent weeks stepped up inspections of match venues across the league to ensure pitches meet minimum standards required for player safety and television broadcast.
