Speaking on the federation’s vision, Shettima admitted that shooting remains a relatively unpopular sport in the country but stressed that deliberate grassroots programmes are being put in place to change that narrative.

“We understand that shooting is not yet a popular sport in Nigeria, and that is exactly why we are focusing on grassroots development,” Shettima said. “Our goal is to create awareness, provide access, and give young Nigerians the opportunity to discover the sport.”

He explained that the federation is embarking on targeted campaigns aimed at schools and local communities, with the intention of identifying and nurturing young talents who can grow into elite athletes.

“We want to provide more opportunities for grassroots athletes,” he added. “If we do this consistently, Nigeria will not only grow participation but also raise athletes who can compete at the highest level.”

Shettima also revealed that long-term plans include positioning Nigeria to compete at major international events, including the Olympic Games.

“Our dream is to see Nigerian shooters at the Olympics in the nearest future,” he said. “With proper structure, investment and commitment, that goal is achievable.”

The federation president concluded by calling on stakeholders and partners to support the development drive, noting that sustained investment is key to building a strong future for shooting sports in Nigeria.

“Development is a collective effort,” Shettima said. “If we work together, shooting can become a respected and successful sport in this country.”
