National Sports Commission (NSC) chairman, Malam Shehu Dikko has reiterated that the current administration in Nigeria is committed to the task of upscaling infrastructure in the sector and ensuring it receives proper maintenance.
Sports247 reports that Dikko made the assertion during the African Union Sports Council Region 2 meeting in Abuja, during which he also cited Nigeria’s array of stadiums as a process towards becoming a leading sports hub in Africa.

He explained that the meeting was championed by the African Union to harmonise sports development across the continent under a unified framework, with all participating countries comparing strategies and learning from one another.
Dikko posited that no country on the continent can rival Nigeria in the spread of sports infrastructure, then doused concern raised by critics, stakeholders and the general public about poor conditions of the nation’s facilities.
However, the NSC’s boss concluded by acknowledging the need to raise standards to international levels in Nigeria’s sports infrastructure, then assured that efforts are ongoing to ensure that existing facilities are upgraded and properly maintained.
“We must upscale the level of our infrastructures and ensure they are maintained the right way,” Dikko said, adding that with the necessary improvements, Nigeria could host major tournaments at short notice.
“Nigeria possesses the political will and the organizational capacity to host memorable sports events that resonate across the continent,” Dikko concluded, while affirming readiness to host the 2031 African Games.
