Serie A: Ademola Lookman Guides Atalanta To Hard Fought Win Against Cagliari As Gasperoni Backs Forward To Come Good

Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman is starting to find his foot after a sluggish start to the season with Atalanta guiding the Serie A outfit to a hard-fought victory against Cagliari at Bergamo yesterday.

Atalanta got off to a strong start with De Ketelaere testing Radunovic on 12 minutes at the end of a splendid solo effort although Cagliari came up with an instant reply through Shomurodov whose diving header was wide.

Shortly after, Lookman’s mazy run resulted in a 26th-minute right-foot shot that rattled the crossbar and Zappacosta hit the outside of the near post on the outcome.

At the half-hour mark, Radunovic had to get down to save Lookman’s effort as Atalanta put themselves in siege mode, pouring everything forward and it was Lookman himself who broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute.

Handed a rare start on matchday 5 of the 2023-2024 Serie A TIM, the former Everton man wasted no time to reward Gasperoni’s faith in him through a 33rd-minute strike to send the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo into an uproar as they held on to the lead into half time.

Ademola Lookman carried his scoring form from the Super Eagles’ victory over Sao Tome into the following game, the defeat to Fiorentina. He has now found the back of the net in consecutive league games with his strike to down Isolani.

The Nigerian now has 2 goals to his name this season and with this victory, Atalanta are in 6th place with 9 points with their defeated opponents in 19th place with 2 points.
