Hull City of England defender, Semi Ajayi will be with the Super Eagles in Rabat, Morocco during the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification play-offs, but he will not play Thursday’s match against Gabon, Sports247 gathered.
This was disclosed by the communications director of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ademola Olajire who stated categorically that Ajayi was officially included in the list of 24 invitees and will be expected to be present when the camp opens on Monday in Rabat.

This is in contrast with an initial report that the former Charlton Athletic, Rotherham United and West Bromwich Albion of England centre back’s name had been included in the Eagles’ squad list by error.
Speculation arose that a mistake occurred while computing the Eagles’list of 24 invitees, as a press release that accompanied the roster indicated that Ajayi ‘misses out’ because he is suspended for Thursday’s match due to accumulated yellow cards he got during the original qualifiers.
However, Sports247 learnt further that Eagles’ coach, Eric Chelle is thinking beyond the match against Gabon, as he expects the team to win on Thursday, then go on to the final – which means they will actually play two games in Rabat.
The Franco-Malian gaffer is, therefore, leaving his options open to see if Ajayi could be on ground to feature in next Sunday’s final against Cameroon or DR Congo.
