Segun Wahab Targets Major World Boxing Title

Nigerian professional boxer, Segun ‘The Machine’ Wahab has set a new target for himself, as sports247.ng learnt he is now thinking of winning a major world title.

Wahab is talking tough, after winning World Boxing Federation (WBF) Intercontinental super featherweight belt, but said he now wants to clinch the body’s main global title as well.

Wahab won the WBF Intercontinental title after defeating Issa “Peche Boy” Nampepeche of Tanzania at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, after which he declared his burning ambition to go further.

Although it took a unanimous points decision for him to carry the day, Wahab, who fought in Nigeria for the first time, said he now wants a shot at the world title, currently held by Rwanda’s Patrick Kinigamazi.

Wahab added that he was delighted to win the vacant Intercontinental super featherweight belt, but said his main target is the WBF world title.

The new champion declared: “It was great to win the title in my first fight at home, a truly remarkable moment.

“However, I now have to concentrate on how I can win the WBF super featherweight world title.

“I am now a contender for the title, so I am intensifying my preparations to ensure I get the biggest prize in the weight division.”
