‘Secure Your Earnings!’ Ekpo Warns Players Over Unpaid Bonuses and Welfare Issues

Former Nigeria international Friday Ekpo has advised current players to be vigilant about their financial entitlements, stressing that representing the country should not come at the cost of being owed or denied due benefits.

Ekpo acknowledged that playing for the Nigeria national football team remains a great honour, but warned that players must also protect their interests.

“It’s a privilege to play for Nigeria, but players must ensure what is due to them is properly secured,” Ekpo said.

The former midfielder pointed out that there have been instances where players face delays or difficulties in receiving bonuses and allowances.

According to him, such situations can create unnecessary stress and affect players both during and after their careers.

Ekpo referenced the experience of Emmanuel Amunike as an example of how players sometimes have to deal with personal challenges, including injuries, without adequate support.

“Players have sometimes been left to handle serious issues on their own,” he noted.

He stressed the importance of proper structures to ensure players are not left vulnerable after serving the country.

Ekpo also urged football authorities to improve transparency and accountability in handling players’ welfare.

“There must be a system that protects players,” he added.

The former Super Eagles star concluded by encouraging players to stay informed, seek proper advice, and ensure their rights are protected while representing the nation, emphasizing that both pride and professionalism must go hand in hand.
