Ewarah Squiz and Whiskey Godsfavour emerged as victors in their respective divisions as the annual MGI Scrabble Premier League (MSPL), a football-inspired competition, completed its preliminary stages at the Homeville Plus Hotel in Benin, Edo State, over the weekend.

The founder of Mind Games Incorporated (MGI), Lukeman Owolabi, expressed immense joy at the turnout of players and the seamless execution of the current season. Launched in 2019, the MSPL has been a game-changer for Nigerian scrabble, boasting significant success in its inaugural edition and experiencing remarkable growth, expanding into a two-division league within a year.
This year’s MSPL season showcased 18 teams divided into two divisions, A and B, engaging in an intense battle over 205 rounds, with an impressive prize pool of over N6 million.
Lukeman Owolabi took the opportunity to invite potential sponsors, individuals, and brands to collaborate with MGI, aiming to unlock the league’s full potential.
Matchday three saw Division A featuring six teams and 30 players, while Division B had 12 teams and 60 players. The Division A teams battled through ten games each, while Division B teams faced twelve challenging matches.
At the conclusion of matchday three, Ewarah Squiz and Hurricanes secured the top positions in Division A for individuals and teams, respectively, while Whiskey Godsfavor and D. Warriors led the way in Division B.
With the preliminary stages wrapped up, the anticipation for the grand finale is at an all-time high.
The Golfview Hotel and Suites in Ikeja GRA, Lagos, will host the thrilling climax of the MSPL on October 6 and 7, 2023.
Following the grand finale, the excitement continues with The MGI Scrabble Grand Slam, scheduled from October 13 to 15, 2023, taking place at the same prestigious venue.
