Sports247 reports that Olopade’s eulogies came in the wake of Ogoke’s announcement on Tuesday that she was retiring from the Nigerian women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, with which she won five African continental titles.
Ogoke, who was also previously captain of the side, quit the international stage as a mother and at the age of 35, with a well-planned formal announcement in front of her teammates at a ceremony organised by D’Tigress’ official partners, Xejet.
Olopade, who was present at the ceremony, said Ogoke is a living legend in the basketball sector, whose story is a perfect narration that will inspire the next generation of Nigerian sports talents in representing the nation.
He added, “We don’t have too many of Sarah Ogokes around. For us at the NSC, you mirror what Nigerian sports should truly look like. Combining a successful sports career with quality education as a medical doctor and a successful marriage.
“You excel in all you do. You are truly a big asset to Nigerian basketball and sports generally. You might have retired from active playing in the national team, but we will continue to draw from your expertise.”
