Ikpefan is Nigeria’s sole representative for the Games, which begin on February 6, 2026, making his qualification a significant moment for winter sports in the country.
This will be his second appearance at the Winter Olympics, having previously represented Nigeria on the global stage.
The journey to Milano Cortina has not been without challenges. Ikpefan’s return to Olympic competition comes after undergoing major surgery on his meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), a setback that threatened to derail his career.
His recovery and successful qualification underline a remarkable comeback and personal milestone for the athlete.
By securing a place at the Winter Olympics once again, Ikpefan continues to break new ground for Nigeria in cross-country skiing, a sport with limited presence in the country.
His participation highlights Nigeria’s growing footprint beyond traditional sporting disciplines and reinforces the nation’s presence at major international sporting events.
Ikpefan will line up in the men’s 10km freestyle cross-country skiing race, carrying the Nigerian flag and representing the country on one of the world’s biggest sporting stages.
