Former Super Eagles’ defender, Sam Sodje has provided two options that could help the Nigerian national bounce back from their current woes in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, even as he pointed out that top shots of the country’s football governing body should quit.
Sports247 reports that the former Brentford of England centre back suggested either a short-term project heading into this year’s Africa Cup of Nations or a long-term strategy towards the next World Cup.

He affirmed, “There are two things – either we have a short plan and go to the Nations Cup with it, then get a long-term plan after that, or we start a long-term plan immediately now.”
However, considering that both options infer that the Eagles can no longer qualify for the 2026 Mundial, Sodje posited that the current leadership in Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has to step aside and the coach, Eric Chelle should also leave.
Sodje declared, “As a technical man, it’s either we stick to the current manager to fix things in a short-term plan or we quickly go for a long-term plan.
“Whichever one we choose, something has to change. The NFF have to understand where we are coming from. If they have integrity, they would do the needful. If not, then we’ll have to ask them to give way.”
