Salisu Yusuf Buys Excuses, Says Eagles Lost Due To Lack Of Friendlies

Coach of the home-based Super Eagles, Salisu Yusuf has credited the loss to Ghana to a lack of good preparation and quality friendly matches prior to the match against the Black Galaxies of Ghana.

Nigeria lost 2 goals to nil in the first leg of the CHAN qualifier slated for next year.

He has told the national team’s fans after the match in Ghana that in football, anything can happen, as Nigeria looks towards the return leg on September 3rd.

The tactician spoke to journalists after the game stating that this is his first big game as the team never played any match before playing the Galaxies, not even a top-friendly match. “In football, anything can happen. This is my first serious game. In the world cup game, we drew here in Kumasi and also drew in Nigeria but they qualified. So now they are here again. It’s football anything can happen. This is the first serious game we had as a team. We never played any international friendly”.

Nigeria will be playing to upturn a two-goal deficit in 90minutes if we must play in next year’s CHAN tournament. The Eagles played a balanced game in the first half of the encounter but failed to utilize their chances. The Galaxies dominated the second half and got their first goal in the 49th minute via a penalty kick, no thanks to the defender who handled the ball in the penalty box. The second goal came later in the game as the goalkeeper’s superb effort was not enough to save the day.
