Sahara Group’s Fifth Saharalympic Games Shines With Daniel Amokachi As Special Guest

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Sports Complex witnessed a spectacular display of talent, teamwork, and camaraderie during the fifth Saharalympic Games, with the presence of Super Eagles’ former striker, Daniel Amokachi, adding to the excitement.

The biennial sporting event, which debuted in 2014, brought together Sahara Group employees from Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East in a celebration of competitiveness, resilience, and team spirit.

Five teams, comprising various entities within Sahara Group, competed in a range of events, including chess, scrabble, athletics, football, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, big foot race, frisbee relay, and ping-pong race.

Egbin Power emerged victorious, retaining the championship title, while Ikeja Electric and Asharami Synergy secured the first and second runner-up positions, respectively.

The Saharalympics also marked a special moment with the ‘signing’ of Daniel Amokachi as the event’s special guest of honor. The iconic former Super Eagles star received a customized Saharalympics jersey, joining a distinguished list of sporting greats who have previously been part of the event.

Amokachi expressed his gratitude, stating, “Sahara Group’s reputation stands out in the energy sector, and I am truly thrilled to witness the spirit of teamwork and unity that makes Sahara unique.”

The Saharalympic Games serves as a platform not only for sporting excellence but also for recognizing and celebrating outstanding individuals and teams in various sporting activities.
