The striker, who rejoined the club in January, scored his first goal since returning as Valencia produced a composed away performance to seal progression in the competition.
Valencia took the lead early in the contest when Rubén Iranzo opened the scoring in the 10th minute, converting after a well-weighted assist from André Almeida.
Umar doubled Los Che’s advantage shortly after the break. In the 50th minute, the Nigerian forward finished confidently after being set up by Largie Ramazani, underlining his sharpness in front of goal and his importance to Valencia’s attacking options.
The goal was a timely boost for Umar, who has been working his way back into rhythm following his return, and it highlighted his ability to deliver on big occasions.
His movement and physical presence caused problems for the Burgos defence throughout his time on the pitch.
Valencia head coach opted to manage Umar’s minutes, withdrawing him in the 64th minute and introducing Spanish forward Hugo Duro as the team looked to see out the game comfortably.
The victory sends Valencia into the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey and provides further encouragement as they continue their campaign on multiple fronts.
For Sadiq Umar, the goal represents a positive step forward and a confidence-boosting start to his latest chapter with the club.
