Sadiq Umar Moves Nearer Loan Switch To Perugia

Rio 2016 Olympics bronze medalist, Sadiq Umar is on the verge of sealing a deal with Italian lower division side, Perugia.

Sports247.ng gathered that Perugia have reached an agreement with Umar’s parent club, AS Roma to have him on loan for the remainder of the season, following his stillborn stint at Glasgow Rangers of Scotland, which he left unceremoniously last week.

He linked up with Rangers on a one-year loan deal at the beginning of the season, but has struggled for regular playing time at the club.

He has made just five appearances for The Light Blues and has failed to start a Scottish Premier League game during a terrible five months.

The Gers’ boss, Steven Gerrard allowed Umar to leave Ibrox three weeks before the transfer window opens, in order for the former Liverpool star-turned-manager to get a suitable replacement early enough.

Before his Scotland misadventure, Umar joined Roma from Italian lower division side, Spezia in 2016 for a fee around £2m and scored two goals from six Serie A appearances in his first season at the Rome-based club.

The 21-year-old lanky attacker, who has also played on loan at Bologna and Torino of Italy, as well as NAC Breda of Holland, is now expected to officially join Perugia next month.

Before then, Umar could have his medical on Tuesday, while the move will be official as soon as the transfer window reopens in January.
