Amavubi of Rwanda’s assistant coach, Eric Nshimiyimana has declared emphatically that the squad will be all out to snatch all three points this Saturday when they face Nigeria in a potentially decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
Although the match will take place at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, which has been Nigeria’s home venue for recent international games, Nshimiyimana recounted how his side shocked the Super Eagles at the same arena last year, and believes they can do it once again.

The assistant gaffer stated boldly, “The last time we played against Nigeria at this venue, we beat them, and I hope we will do it again. I cannot tell you how we are going to play, but we will make use of the chance to get a good result.”
Sports247 recalls that the game cited by Nshimiyimana was an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) qualifier, which Rwanda won 2-1 on 18th November 2024 at The Nest Of Champions, but it came after the Super Eagles had already qualified for the competition with a match to spare.
However, Nigeria promptly atoned for that defeat in the immediate past game between both countries, as the Super Eagles beat Amavubi 2-0 at their home ground in Kigali on 21st March this year, during the first leg of this upcoming reverse fixture in the Akwa Ibom State capital.
Despite memories of that defeat at home still fresh in mind, Nshimiyimana, whose country also earlier settled for a 0-0 draw with the Nigerians in Kigali during the first leg of their AFCON qualifier on 10th September 2024, bravely declared that they are not scared of the Super Eagles.
“We cannot hold any jitters for Nigeria. We know they have good players. We know that, but also do we. We have a chance to show what we have, and we’ll try to get the three points,” Nshimiyimana emphasised.
