Nigeria’s women’s national cricket team, the Female Yellow Greens, suffered their second defeat at the ongoing Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament in Kigali after falling to hosts Rwanda by two runs in a thrilling contest on Friday.
The narrow loss leaves Nigeria with two wins and two defeats after four matches in the competition.
Batting first, Rwanda posted 106 all out in 19.5 overs, with Nigeria’s bowling unit delivering another disciplined performance.
Christabel Chukwuonye was the standout performer for the Female Yellow Greens, finishing with impressive figures of 3 wickets for 14 runs.
In reply, Nigeria battled hard but narrowly missed the target, ending on 104/6 in their allotted 20 overs to hand Rwanda a dramatic two-run victory.
The Female Yellow Greens had opened their campaign with a commanding 52-run win over Malawi on June 10 after restricting their opponents to 46 all out.
Jessica Bieni starred with the bat, while Adeshola Adekunle shone with the ball.
Nigeria then suffered a seven-wicket defeat to Brazil before bouncing back strongly later the same day with a convincing seven-wicket victory over Zimbabwe High Performance Centre.
Captain Favour Eseigbe led from the front with the ball, while Salome Sunday guided the chase with an unbeaten knock.
Despite the latest setback, Nigeria remain in contention as the round-robin phase of the tournament continues in Kigali.
