Captain of Nigeria’s men’s cricket team, the Yellow Greens, Suleiman Runsewe, has hailed his side’s all-round performance after their commanding 23-wicket victory over Zambia in Match 10 of the 2025 West Africa Trophy.
Runsewe said he was particularly impressed with the renewed sharpness in Nigeria’s batting unit, noting that the players showed confidence, patience, and improved shot selection throughout the tie.
“The batting display was a big step forward. The players showed maturity and took responsibility at crucial moments,” he said.
He also praised the bowlers for maintaining discipline and sticking to the game plan, describing their consistency in line and length as one of the key factors behind the comfortable win.
“Our bowling was disciplined. The boys held their nerve and kept the right lines all through. That’s what gave us control,” Runsewe added.
With two strong departments firing simultaneously, Nigeria looked dominant from the first over to the last. Runsewe, however, stressed that while the victory was impressive, the team will remain grounded and focused.
“We are taking this tournament one game at a time. No distractions. We want to keep improving in every match,” he said.
The captain emphasized that the team’s goal is to deliver consistent performances, ensuring both the batting and bowling units perform at their highest level as the competition progresses.
“We must play our A-game in both batting and bowling. That balance is what wins tournaments,” he noted.
Runsewe commended the team spirit within the squad, saying the players have shown hunger and resilience in training and competition.
“The unity in this team is strong. Everyone is ready to contribute, and that is what gives us confidence,” he stated.
As the Yellow Greens push for a top finish, Runsewe says the team is determined to maintain intensity and avoid complacency.
“We’ve started well, but we must keep going. If we stay focused, Nigeria can go very far in this tournament,” he concluded.
