Oguntimehin stated in a press release that the training programme, which will hold on April 23rd in the Ogun State capital, is part of the NRFF’s efforts to enhance development of the sport at the grassroots level.

He added that the three-day programme, which will be staged in collaboration with Ogun State government, is aimed at developing rugby coaches and medical personnel, while also making the game accessible to young people.

Oguntimehin disclosed further that the training proframme will coincide with the 3rd Abeokuta Rugby 7s Tournament, which is a follow-up to last year’s edition, in which Cowrie RFC beat Racing of Lagos to emerge champions.

“Organisers say the initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the foundation of rugby in Nigeria by building capacity at the grassroots level and encouraging wider participation.

“Participants are expected to have completed basic World Rugby training modules, including Rugby Ready and T1 Rugby (non-contact), as well as introductory courses in coaching and player welfare/medical care.

“The programme is designed to equip attendees with essential knowledge on safety, game fundamentals, and athlete management,” Oguntimehin added in a media statement.
