Ruby Lawani Applauds Lagos Women Run for Its Continuous Growth

The distribution of kits for the Lagos Women Run began today and will continue until November 9th, leading up to the event scheduled for November 11th.

Ruby Lawani, a young athlete who has participated in previous editions of the Lagos Women Run, showed her support for her fellow athletes as they collected their bib numbers. She praised the event for its consistent improvement over the years.

Ruby reminisced about her past experiences with the run:

“I competed in the first edition, and it was lovely. I have had my teammates competing in every edition.

“Today, I am here to support them as they pick up their bib numbers, and I am super proud of what they have put in place. The organization is top-notch, and I am hoping for a better race for everyone on Saturday.”

While she won’t be participating this year due to other commitments, she expressed her excitement about cheering on all the runners to give their best during the event.

Reflecting on previous editions, Ruby mentioned the positive aspects of the run:

“The first time I participated, it was nice and lovely. The payment method was good. The top 50 runners received cash prizes, which was perfect.

“People of all ages were given the chance and opportunity, and the planning and organization level was good. Everything from refreshments, water points, pick-up cars, medical support, and more was top-notch. They did their best and kept improving every year.

“We hope to see more chances where they can expand the prize money, maybe to the top 50 and even 60. No matter how small it is, it encourages people to stay healthy.”

Ruby shared her own experience as one of the top runners, finishing 13th and receiving a cash prize of 4,000NGN, which served as significant encouragement for her.

She looks forward to competing in the run again next year and is excited about her teammates’ abilities in sprints, quarter-mile, middle distance, and distance events for Lagos State and other teams.

She believes it’s a wonderful experience to be there to cheer on her teammates.
