Rope Skipping Federation of Nigeria Focuses on Grassroots Development

The Rope Skipping Federation of Nigeria is making significant strides towards the development of grassroots rope skipping in the country.

With a vision to create a formidable structure for this sport, the federation aims to establish a strong foundation for the growth and progression of rope skipping at the grassroots level.

In its pursuit of this goal, the federation recently organized the inaugural edition of the Rope Skipping League in Ondo State.

The league showcased the talents of nine participating clubs, including Boltad Rope Skipping Club, Synergy Rope Skipping Club, Amabutho Jumpers, and Kemrose Rope Skipping Club, among others.

The league spanned four weeks and took place at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure on May 1st, 2023.

One standout performer in the league was Solomon Philip, the captain of JC Rope Skipping Club and the second Guinness World Record holder in Nigeria. Philip’s exceptional skills and leadership propelled his club to secure the second position in the league standings.

Kemros Rope Skipping Club also showcased their talent, finishing third in the competition.

Speaking about the federation’s plans, Dayo Oyewo, the President of the Rope Skipping Federation, expressed their commitment to building a league system that can be adopted by the international body governing the sport.

Oyewo highlighted the success of the league in Ondo State as a test run and emphasized the potential for rope skipping clubs to emerge worldwide.

Oyewo shared, “Once it’s adopted by the international body, many Rope Skipping clubs will spring up all over the world. Skippers can move from one club to another on a deal.

That’s the vision we have for them. In fact, one of the clubs, JC Rope Skipping Club, has already been adopted by a Nigerian residing in the United States.”

The Rope Skipping Federation of Nigeria is dedicated to creating a strong structure that will pave the way for rope skippers to pursue a rewarding career in the sport.

By focusing on grassroots development and establishing a clear career pathway, the federation aims to nurture and showcase the talents of rope skippers both in Nigeria and globally.

Through their efforts, the federation envisions a future where rope skipping becomes a prominent sport with widespread participation and opportunities for aspiring athletes.

The commitment to grassroots development sets the stage for the growth of rope skipping and paves the way for the emergence of talented rope skippers from Nigeria onto the international stage.
