Rohr Reveals Ambition, Hope For AFCON Success

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has disclosed that he is heading to this year’s Africa Cup of Nations with ambition and hope, as he sees it as the opportunity Nigeria has to garner a fourth title at the continental soccer showpiece, sports247.ng reports.

 

The Franco-German soccer tactician disclosed that he is banking his aspirations on the emergence of several young players in the squad, with a view that they will add hunger and desire to experience provided by older members of the team.

He went on to reel out the names of some youngsters who can add depth to the Eagles’ quality upfront and defence, all of which he says gives him additional factors to hold unto for a possible conquest of Egypt 2019 this summer.

He also admitted that it will not be an easy task, considering that every other team going to the championship will also aim to return home with the trophy, but Rohr stressed that he is very optimistic it is Nigeria’s turn to again have a feel of the prestigious African soccer diadem.

Rohr expatiated: “Since we came back from the World Cup in Russia we had very young players who had joined the team and made it stronger.

“We have good players like Samuel Kalu, Samuel Chukwueze who are pacy and quality players.
“We have also in the team right now very young players like Jamilu Collins and Semi Ajayi and we are still searching for more.
“We are an ambitious team going to Egypt for the AFCON and we are hoping to win the cup.
“(That’s) like every other team that would come for the competition. It is not going to be easy at all, but we are very hopeful.”
