Rohr Picks Musa, Etebo, Iwobi As Eagles’ Playmakers

Super Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr has downplayed the debate about a new play-maker in the team, as he says any good footballer should be able to fit into the position if assigned the duty.

However, sports247.ng can report that, while the Franco-German tactician believes the issue of a playmaker is not one to worry about in the Eagles, he is equally pointing in the direction of those he believes can fit into the role for Nigeria.

Amazingly, though, Rohr’s choices will not go down well with many observers of the round leather game, as he has included stand-in captain, Ahmed Musa in his pecking order.

The former Gabon, Niger Republic and Burkina Faso handler is unabashed in naming Musa as a possible playmaker, and picks him alongside more credible choices in Alex Iwobi and Oghenekaro Etebo.

Rohr argued during a television programme: “It is not necessary to have this position of number ten in modern football.
“We have a lot of players who can be natural playmakers. Everybody must be able to make the play.

“To be a playmaker, the defensive midfielders or even the defenders have to give good balls and to construct the game.
“We have players like Etebo who can be a playmaker, he can also be a good defensive midfielder.’

“We have Alex Iwobi who played in this position and did very well in Johannesburg.
“We have Ahmed Musa who is coming in from the left side and can give good balls and score himself.”
