Rohr Pays Visit To Flying Eagles During Training

Super Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr has kept true to his promise to keep tabs on players of the youth national team, Flying Eagles, as the Franco-German gaffer turned up for the squad’s training session in Abuja.

Sports247.ng reports that, ahead of the team’s trip to Niger Republic on Thursday, for the African U-20 Cup of Nations, Rohr was present during their drills to offer advice to the technical crew and players.

Rohr had stated on his return to Nigeria, after a month-long break for Christmas and New Year, that he would monitor players in the under-20 squad, as he sees them as the bedrock for the future Super Eagles.

He went on to wish the coach, Paul Aigbogun the best of results, as he prepares to line his squad out in Group A alongside the host nation, Niger Republic as well as Burundi and South Africa.

Aigbogun’s team kick off their campaign this Sunday against Burundi, which the former Warri Wolves and Enyimba of Aba coach has already tagged a must-win match for his side.

The Flying Eagles’ gaffer said he wants to win his first two matches in Niger, as the seven-time champions seek qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland and a record extending eighth continental crown.

Aigbogun’s efforts have now received a boost from Rohr, who said he was impressed with the team’s training methods and hopes they will turn it into victory in all their upcoming matches.

Rohr added that he is also expecting that Aigbogun’s squad will to do well in Niger Republic, where he said he promised to also turn up and add a morale boosting presence to their efforts in February.

The former Niger Republic, Burkina Faso and Gabon coach challenged the players to give their very best at the 2019 U-20 AFCON, with a hint that he could even include a couple of them in his list for the matches against Seychelles and Egypt in March.

Rohr beamed: “I watched the team’s training session and I see they are good. They are ambitious and I will be in Niger Republic to see some of the matches.

“I have decided to pick one or two of them, the best ones, to give them a chance when we regroup for the matches against Seychelles and Egypt.”
