Rocket FC of Orlu in Imo State stepped up their activities with a schedule of two matches at the start of this week, as the coach of the side, Victor Nwokeji seeks various ways of getting his players into proper shape.
Sports247 gathered that Nwokeji is of a view that the more matches his wards get to play the better their level of exposure and maturity in the game, hence his decision to arrange two back-to-back friendlies for them only 24 hours apart.
Consequently, while many of their age mates and friends relaxed after church on Sunday, Rocket FC’s players dutifully turned up for a friendly match, which they won 4-1, following which Nwokeji informed the lads they had another fixture on Monday.
One of the players, Sixtus Chinemerem Afoaku told Sports247 that they all turned up willingly for Sunday’s game, despite many of them having to rush to the venue directly from their various churches, and expressed delight that they eventually won the game with a heavy goal margin.
Afoaku revealed, “The match was against Okwuekpe at our home ground, inside Central School Ihioma, and we won it 4-1. Sunny scored two goals, Dam got one, and Chinaza also scored a goal.
“It was a friendly match, but we took it very seriously like a competition, and I was very happy that we played a very lovely game. Our coach told us the match was to help us continue our efforts to step up better on the way forward.
“He was happy that we won the match and said he was proud of us. He then told us that we have another match on Monday, because he wants us to keep on being busy. He said the best way to groe in football is by playing matches regularly.”
