Speaking ahead of the international friendly, Martinez explained that the game forms an important part of Portugal’s preparations for the FIFA World Cup.

“Nigeria will provide us with a very competitive test,” Martinez said.

According to the former Belgium national football team coach, the match will also help Portugal prepare for their upcoming World Cup group stage clash against Democratic Republic of the Congo.

“It is an important opportunity to prepare the team,” he implied.

Martinez also praised Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle for the tactical ideas he has introduced to the Nigerian team.

“I like the ideas Eric Chelle is bringing to Nigeria,” he noted.

The Portuguese coach highlighted Nigeria’s tactical flexibility and ability to adapt during matches as major strengths.

“They are tactically flexible and can create problems for any team,” he added.

Martinez believes the friendly encounter will benefit both teams as they continue preparations for future competitions.

“It will be a useful game for both sides,” he stressed.

Nigeria continue attracting praise for their recent performances under Chelle despite missing out on the World Cup.

“The Super Eagles are gradually building a stronger identity,” many football observers believe.

The upcoming clash against Portugal is expected to provide another major test for the Nigerian side.

For Roberto Martinez, the message is clear.

Nigeria will be a difficult opponent.

Eric Chelle’s tactical work is earning respect.

And the friendly should provide valuable lessons for both teams.

Because top-level international friendlies help teams improve, adapt, and prepare for bigger competitions.
