Rivers United Failed To Clinch Tittle As Makaiba Worries Over Rangers Results

Rivers United gave away thier chances of being named winners of the 2021/2022 Nigerian Professional Football League as they forced Rangers International of Enugu to a goalless draw in the Awka City Stadium on Saturday.

Rivers United presently are at the top of the table with 11 points, ahead of Plateau United who plays later today with a slight hope of narrowing the gaps to 8 points.

In a keenly contested encounter described as being dominated by Rangers International, Coach Abdul Makaiba’s men fought hard to maintain a top four ambition but the game didn’t go as planned as Makaiba described the game as a disappointing one.

After the encounter, coach Makaiba showed his dissatisfaction in the game, stating that his team needed to do more “It was a very good display by my players but we did not get the result we actually worked for. I am a bit disappointed not in my players but with the result we could not get. We keep fighting until the very last match of the season to ensure that we achieve our target.”

In the race for top four finish, it’s clear that the first and second have been settled with Rivers United and Plateau United claiming them respectively. Rangers, Enyimba, Remo Stars, Kwara United, Sunshine Stars and Akwa United still have thier chances of finishing either in 3rd or 4th. With just 4 points between the 4th and 8th position, the last four matches will be keenly contested.

A win for Remo Stars and an emphatic win for Enyimba will knock off Enugu Rangers from the 3rd position to be 5th on the league table.
