Rivers United Coach Olanrewaju Targets Strong CAF Champions League Start

Rivers United head coach Yemi Olanrewaju says his team is focused on getting off to a strong start in the CAF Champions League as they prepare to face Mozambican side Black Bulls this weekend.

Speaking ahead of the tie, Olanrewaju said he is “partially familiar” with the Black Bulls squad, having faced them last year, but admitted that some changes in their setup could make this encounter different.

“We know a bit about them, but football evolves quickly. What’s important is to stick to our plan and execute it well,” he said.

The coach emphasized that Rivers United will not lose sight of their domestic ambitions while competing on the continental front. “We’re taking it game by game. The CAF Champions League is crucial, but so is our league campaign,” Olanrewaju stated.

He also acknowledged the responsibility that comes with representing Nigeria, noting that Rivers United and Remo Stars are the country’s only two teams on the continent this season.

“We want to make Nigeria proud. Every match is an opportunity to show our quality and prove that Nigerian football can compete at the highest level in Africa,” he added.

Rivers United are aiming to build on their recent league form as they seek a deep run in this season’s Champions League.
