Rivers Hoopers have boosted their roster with two key defensive signings ahead of the 2025 Basketball Africa League (BAL), which begins this weekend in South Africa.
Head coach Ogoh Odaudu confirmed the addition of Ahmed Doumbia, a defensive specialist from the French League, and Chingka Garba, a Nigerian forward currently playing in Rwanda.

The move comes after the Hoopers suffered two defeats to Al Ittihad Alexandria during the Kalahari Conference, raising concerns about the team’s defensive capabilities.
Odaudu said the new additions were brought in specifically to address those weaknesses as the team targets a deeper run in the tournament.
“We needed to tighten our defense, and both players fit exactly what we’re looking for,” Odaudu said.
Rivers Hoopers, who secured a bronze medal in the 2024 edition held in Kigali, are placed in a tough group that includes FUS Rabat, Al Ittihad Alexandria, and Stade Malien.
