As the countdown continues to the highly anticipated 2025 WTT Contender Lagos, the World Table Tennis (WTT) organization has officially unveiled its list of wildcard entries, featuring emerging talents from Nigeria, Portugal, France, and South Korea.
Scheduled to take place from July 22 to 26 at the iconic Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, the tournament once again positions Lagos as Africa’s premier table tennis destination.

Among the headline acts is French teenage prodigy Rémi Betelu, a rising defensive specialist and recent semifinalist at the 2025 WTT Feeder Havirov. Betelu’s inclusion is expected to bring flair and intensity to the Men’s Singles draw as he looks to impress on Nigerian soil.
In the Women’s Singles, 19-year-old Kim Nayeong of South Korea leads the wildcard selections. After reaching the semifinals at the 2023 edition, Kim returns to Lagos with renewed ambition to claim her maiden WTT Series title.
She will be joined by experienced Portuguese star Fu Yu, renowned for her quick-paced penhold technique, and Nigerian hopeful Aminat Fashola, who aims to leverage home support to boost her performance.
The Men’s Singles wildcard list also includes Nigeria’s Taiwo Mati and Samuel Boboye.
Both players are seen as vital components of the country’s future in table tennis and will be eager to make a statement in front of a passionate local audience.
Rounding off the list is France’s Romain Ruiz, a crowd-pleaser known for his aggressive flick shots and unpredictable style.
The six wildcard picks promise to infuse this year’s tournament with a mix of youth, experience, and international flavor, adding even more depth to an already elite line-up of global competitors.
WTT Contender Lagos 2025 is expected to draw top-ranked athletes and fans from across the world, as Nigeria continues to solidify its status on the international table tennis map.
