Team Nigeria’s impressive performances at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh have further validated the effectiveness of the National Sports Commission’s RHINSE strategic framework, as athletes continue to deliver world-class results across multiple disciplines.
Under the RHINSE model — which prioritizes Restructuring, Human-capacity development, Investment, Nurturing, Sustainability and Excellence — Nigeria’s athletes have shown a new level of preparation, discipline and competitive edge.

This renewed structure was evident on Sunday as weightlifting sensation Rafiatu Folashade Lawal dominated the Women’s 59kg category, claiming all three gold medals on offer. Her execution in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total underscored a system that fosters elite performance and consistency.
In the men’s category, Edidiong Joseph Umoafia added to the momentum with a complete medal set: one gold, one silver and one bronze — a reflection of the depth and improved technical support now available to high-performance athletes.
Boxing also benefitted from the RHINSE-driven preparatory framework, as Zainab Adeshina secured a place in the final of the Women’s 51kg division with a composed and tactically astute semifinal performance against her Algerian opponent.
With Day Four on the horizon, Team Nigeria is poised for more podium finishes. Weightlifters Ruth Imoleayo (63kg) and Yusuf Islamiyat (69kg) are expected to challenge for top honours, while Adeshina will return to the ring to compete for gold in the 53kg women’s final.
The RHINSE initiative has strengthened athlete development pathways, enhanced technical readiness, and created a sustainable template for international excellence. As a result, Team Nigeria is now firmly positioned to surpass its previous achievements at the Islamic Solidarity Games, embodying the Commission’s vision of a stronger, more competitive sporting nation.
