Representing Nigeria Is a Feeling I’ll Always Cherish — Sade Olatoye After Hammer Silver in Accra

Nigerian hammer thrower Oyesade Olatoye says representing Nigeria remains a special experience she never takes for granted, despite having worn the national colours for several years.

Speaking after winning silver in the women’s hammer throw event at the African Athletics Championships, Olatoye described competing for Team Nigeria as a feeling that continues to inspire her every time she steps onto the field.

“No two sunsets are ever the same,” Olatoye said while reflecting on her journey with the national team in an interview after her event.

The experienced athlete, fondly known as “Mrs. Reliable,” once again lived up to expectations by securing a silver medal in the women’s hammer throw with a best effort of 69.60m.

Her performance further reinforced her reputation as one of Nigeria’s most consistent athletes in the throwing events.

“The experience is never enough. Every championship comes with a new opportunity. Coming out to represent the country is a feeling that can never get old,” Olatoye said.

“Day by day, I just give my best. It was good we had a few girls throwing far; the competition was felt, which brings out the best in me,” she added.

The Nigerian star also revealed that her attention has now shifted to preparations for the upcoming Commonwealth Games, where she hopes to deliver another strong performance for the country.

Olatoye has remained one of Nigeria’s dependable performers on the continental stage and will be aiming to build on her latest success as preparations intensify for future international competitions.
