Remo Stars Pip Lamray United FC in Match Day One of the 2019/20 NNL Season

Remo Stars Football Club (RSFC) have started the 2019/20 Nigeria National League (NNL) on a brighter note after defeating Enugu based, Lamary United FC 1-0 at the Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu.

Both sides started the first game of the season in a wishy-washy manner but gradually built on it in the eleventh minute with a close range effort from the captain of the day, Nduka Junior after Ismail Sodiq connected him well from a well taken free kick.

The visitors showed a sudden flash in the 24th minute after Agbo Emmanuel was infringed on the edge of the box, he took a brilliant free kick but became unlucky when his attempt went over the bar.

The Sky Blue Stars came close in the 32nd minute when Adedayo Olamilekan carefully flipped the ball towards Nwautobo Miracle, he took the shot at once but the visitors’ goalkeeper was well positioned to deny his attempt to give the host the lead.

New recruit for the host, Fawas Otun also had the opportunity to give his side the lead but Ihionu Nnaemeka came to the rescue and immediately Donatus Itumo tried his luck also from a close range but flips wide.

The first finished in a drab but the second half showed some brilliant flashes from the Sky Blue Stars when Ibrahim Yusuf was introduced to the game to replace Fawas Otun.

The pressure yielded profit for the host when the breakthrough came in the 58th minute through captain of the day, Nduka Junior, he swiftly connected with Ismail Sodiq’a cross to give the Sky Blue Stars the lead.

While the visitors push to get an equaliser, the host on the other hand were trying to compliment their efforts with the addition of the second goal but Lamray United FC goalkeeper, Ihionu Nnaemeka was good enough to deny the host from extending their lead.

In the closing minutes of the game, Nwautobo Miracle tried again to extend his team’s lead but Ihionu Nnaemeka stood tall yet again to deny him from registering his name to the goalscorers list.

The Sky Blue Stars will travel next weekend to face Jossy United F ootball Club who are yet to play Vandresser FC in match day one of the Nigeria National League (NNL).
