Remo Stars CEO Narrates Journey To Continental Football, Talks On Violence Against Club

The camp of Ikene based club, Remo Stars is full of euphoria as they get set to make thier debut in the continental level, squiring out against Moroccan side FAR Rabat in the first preliminary round of the CAF Confederation’s Cup.

CEO of the side, Lukmon Ogungbefun has hinted that the team is extremely proud to represent the country at this time he is the CEO of the club. Unlike some other clubs, Remo Stars didn’t spend lots of time in the top flight of Nigerian league football before making appearance in the continent. In an exclusive chat with Sports247 naija, Ogungbefun expressed happiness and hoped the club do well in the Confederation’s Cup

“We are happy, we are glad we are there now. It’s an epic moment for us. We worked hard to get it and we got it. It’s a proud moment for us and we will do our best in the CAF Confederation’s Cup.” Climbing up the ladder, according to the administrator, is quite difficult, considering the ups and downs associated with the Nigerian Professional Football League, NPFL.

Ogungbefun futher shares his greatest moments in last season’s NPFL and the result it pulled out for the club.

“The greatest time we had as a club was when we beat Enyimba. It was the one push we needed to keep us in contention for this 3rd place.

The first and second was out of reach and the 3rd was there to grab so the match was so decisive. Remo Stars finished a historic 3rd position on the log behind CAF Champion’s League bound teams Plateau United and league winners, Rivers United.

Last season saw the league characterized with lots of irregularities. One of which is the assault dished out to club chairmen and referees as angry fans will pounce on away teams, especially when losing. Ogungbefun expressed his take on what he experienced in the process of finishing 3rd.

“If you are not a violent person, you really don’t anticipate something like that. The few times I had that kind of encounter, it was not envisaged.

“We were just trying to say that we should calm down as they do thier rage. In all, it’s part of the sports and not particularly a Nigerian thing. It’s a contact sports that has to do with a lot of emotions but I believe it’s not something we should make a habit” he concluded.

Remo will tackle FAR Rabat on Sunday in the first leg of the CAF Confederation’s Cup first round preliminaries and a reversed fixture in a week’s time in Morocco.
